One minute the weather is unseasonably warm and the next its frosty,
which isn't the best recipe for indoor stock, as we are finding. One of
our calves had a spot of pneumonia. We called out the vet to be on the
safe side and, after some treatment, he is thankfully recovering nicely.
Swaledale ram trade was off the clock last Thursday at Hawes, with
top prices of £92,000 and £86,000. That was the last of the big ram
sales so we might get back to some normality now.
Trade is steady in the primestock rings with lambs just creeping up a
little bit, so let's hope things improve as winter approaches. There
seems to be a good trade for the better quality dairy stock so,
hopefully, there is some confidence returning as milk prices start to
improve slightly.
