Word is we are promised a heat wave this next week, which might speed up the wait of those looking for crops to ripen and combine.
Lambs are noisy in ours and surrounding fields where they have been weaned off the ewes.
It is the start of the tup sales and we have been cracking on dressing rams for sales this past few days. We have a handful of Beltex shearlings to sell at the end of the week. We were the last lot in of the sale last year, so the good news is we are bang in the middle this time. Fingers crossed trade is strong and all get away.
Almost 24,000 breeding sheep were sold at Thame last week to a consistent – if not spectacular – trade, with other sales reporting a similar trend.
On the pedigree front, a new Jacob record was set for a shearling ram at Worcester last week, while Suffolk tup lambs at Carlisle weren't anything to shout about. In the prime rings cattle are still on an upward trend, which continues to fuel an already strong store trade. Surprisingly, the lamb trade is still on the up, which again is helping store lamb sales which are well underway.
