Breathtaking Beltex trade

We got our tups away at the Beltex sale last week, sadly not for the trade that had everyone talking! The sale was unbelievably strong. A tup lamb from the Buckle family made 25,000gns and a shearling tup from Grant and Gemma Anderson made a staggering 60,000gns. Many other shearlings were clearing 8,000gns plus.

At the weekend we jumped across the water to attend Tullamore Show. It's huge for a one-day show and farmers were out in force. Stock was good quality, in particular the commercials, serious sizes like you wouldn't believe. I would definitely recommend it.

I've been lucky enough to jump in and out of the Southern Irish World Blue cattle conference. The farms we have visited are run progressively and the standard of stock is to be envied.

All still fairly positive in the auction marts this week. Prime lambs are still a very good trade for the best which is helping the store trade, with some markets reporting store lambs £10 up on the same time last year. Prime cattle, on average, are up a few pence and the store trade is still very strong, particularly for younger cattle.

Sales coming up this week
  • Friday, August 19 - Mart's the Heart-supported special show and sale of
breeding ewes, ewe and store lambs, and breeding rams at Monmouthshire
    Livestock Centre.
  • Saturday, August 20 - Show and sale of Valais Blacknose sheep at
    Borderway Mart, Carlisle.
  • Saturday, August 20 - Collective sale of farm machinery, tools, equipment
    and vehicles at Hexham Mart.
  • Monday, August 22 - Sale of pedigree Welsh pigs at Chelford Market.

The weather has been kind so hopefully everyone has got their harvest in.
Oh and, don't forget, 24 Hours in Farming is back for another year. Starting tomorrow at 5am, be sure to take part on social media - Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Flickr - by using the hashtag #farm24

We want to hear about anything you're doing from everyday farm work, to farm walks, meetings, trips, social gatherings, YFC meetings, even ending at the pub if you like!

Enjoy the rest of the week,
